Performance air filter
What is meant by a performance air filter?
The filter material flows better than the original, allowing more air (oxygen) to pass into the combustion chamber to gain horsepower. This type of filter can also have a different design and material to further adapt to the purpose.
Can an air filter catch fire?
No, Not without fuel, oil or other contamination.
The process of making air filters?
Air filters are produced by using cotton fabric, plastic material (synthetic), and aluminum mesh for added durability. These materials are kept on large rolls, and the filter material is pleated together in at least four layers using a machine. Once pleated, the filter material is cut to the appropriate length.
Ram-Air
When a vehicle moves forward, the air pressure in front of it increases. This is called ram pressure. If the vehicle has a front-facing air inlet, it can take advantage of this effect to provide a boost in engine performance at high speeds. This happens because the engine is able to use the high speed of the vehicle to get more air and increase engine power.
Intake pressure vs vacuum
Air Scoop Pressure vs Speed (ASPS) refers to the point where the amount of air being pushed into the scoop exceeds the engine's ability to consume it. At this point, the air scoop experiences pressure, not vacuum, which might require fuel enrichment or a reduction in ignition timing. An engine management system can have different mixture requirements for advanced users depending on the ASPS to increase horsepower. Motorcycle manufacturers have done this for decades.
