Clutch disc, Sinter disc

How much play should the clutch spline to the gearbox input shaft be?
When the clutch disc is mounted, it should have some play, or it can easily bind.

Clutch disc spline failure reasons
If the clutch disc splines fail, it can be due to several reasons, often in combination. Be sure to check these out before final assembly

  • Clutch disc hub with too much play
  • Many small splines instead of large ones
  • Single clutch disc with too much power
  • Worn gearbox input shaft
  • Worn disc hub (used disc)
  • Many drag racing starts
  • Rewelded gearbox which is not straight
